# 3049 Penn Yan Looks for Number 25 There is no doubt the Penn Yan will be looking to win their twenty-fifth Section V title this spring. The Mustangs have won every year except one since 1998. Head Coach Brian Hobart will be playing fourteen regular season games, most of which will be against Finer Lakes teams. The Mustangs will be playing as part of the Finger Lake League this year after many years as an Independent. In a "normal" year they would have scheduled tough competition in and out the Section as they would prepare for NYS tournament action, but there is no State tournaments this spring. |

Fairport narrowly defeated Orchard Park, 5-1 in the Class A game. Victor then followed in the Class B game where, after coming alive in the last quarter, won their game with Hamburg, 8-4. After winning their first Sectional Title in school history, East Aurora can now add their first NYS Tournament win to their list of achievements. East Aurora fought back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Geneva 8-6. And in The Class D game, Penn Yan came back from an early deficit to defeat Eden 8-5. |
# 2942 Penn Yan Advances to Face LaFayette Penn Yan came back from an early deficit to defeat Eden 8-5. Earlier in the season, the Mustangs won the matchup 14-0. Eden, who led 3-1 early in the game, played strong for four quarters and kept the game within one for much of the second half. This was the first time that Eden had advanced to the State Tournament. The Raiders were led in scoring by Sawyer Schiedel (1g-1a), Zach Smalling (1g-1a) and Quinn Harrington (1g-1a) with two points each. In the cage for Eden, Zach DeCarolis finished with 19 saves. Colton Smith led in scoring for the Mustangs with 4g-1a. |

Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments. |

The Class A game will see Fairport vs Orchard Park at 10:00 AM, The Class B Game will feature Victor vs Hamburg at 12:30, The Class C game with Geneva vs East Aurora will start at 3:00 PM and the Class D game will see Penn Yan vs Edan at 5:30PM. Tickets will be $6.00 as set by NYS. |
# 2926 Penn Yan Secures 24th Win Penn Yan came back in overtime to defeat Pal-Mac 10-9 to win their 24th Sectional Title. The Mustangs trailed early in the contest before taking a one goal lead into the break. They held that lead into the fourth, when Pal-Mac scored the final two goals of regulation to force overtime. The Red Raiders had the first overtime offensive opportunity after winning the draw; however, they could not get a shot off on cage before Penn Yan got the ball upfield on an errant pass. The Mustangs scored with 0:05 left in the first overtime period with an inside dodge by Colton Smith. Smith was named to the All Tournament Team. |

Wayne beat Midlakes 12-11, Marcus Whitman beat Mynderse 12-11 in overtime, Pal-Mac beat Geneva in overtime and Thomas beat Penn Yan 5-4. |

# 1447 Penn Yan Falls in State Finals Pleasantville came into the State Final game for the first time in their program history and defeated Penn Yan 16-2. The Panthers have made the State Semi Finals in the past, but this was their first time at the big game. Both teams played a close game for the first quarter before Pleasantville pulled away. The Panthers held the Mustangs scoreless for the final 36 minutes as they slowly added to their offensive count. |

Victor, playing in Syracuse against ESM easily won their game 18-3 and will advance to play Garden City on Saturday. |

In 2016, they lost to Cold Spring Harbor 15-4. The Mustangs won the State Title in 2001 over Manhassett 9-8. For this year's Tournament, Penn Yan will face Pleasantville, who defeated Mattituck 20-7 in the other Semi Final game. The leading scorer tonight for the Mustangs was Colton Smith, who finished with 1g-4a. Austin Blumbergs finished with 4g and was instrumental at the face-off to give the Mustangs possession through the second half. Overall, Penn Yan won 11 straight face-offs to finish the game. |

# 1435 Penn Yan Wins 23rd Title Penn Yan won their 23rd Section Five Title tonight with an 8-6 win over Aquinas. The Mustangs took an early 6-1 lead and held off the late advances by Aquinas. The Little Irish scored five of the last seven goals to pull within two. The Final Aquinas goal was scored with 7:21 remaining and the final seven minutes were back and forth play with Penn Yan holding the ball and Aquinas trying to force their shots. |

Two hundred and forty-seven games have been played thus far. Sixty-four (of seventy-three out of Section games scheduled) have been played. Section five teams have won forty-five (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit continue at the top of their leagues. |

Penn Yan won in double overtime with a goal by Colton Smith. Gananda won an exciting 11-10 victory over Pal-Mac as the combination of seniors Brett Cunningham and Henry Bush combined for seven goals which proved to be the difference. Spencerport and Schroeder had two ties before the Warriors scored two goals in the last quarter for a 6-4 win. |
